Implementing the RemoteM temperature monitoring and alerting system across all five of our sites, safeguarding more than twenty fridges containing vaccines and other temperature-sensitive materials, means we no longer have to worry about the potential for losing valuable stock in the event of a power outage or equipment failure. In addition, we have an accurate overview of all our cold chain data, even when surgeries are closed and the premises unoccupied, giving us total peace of mind and enabling us to provide safe and effective services to our community

About The Adam Practice

First established in the 1940s, The Adam Practice today is a 18-partner partnership operating across five sites, offering multiple healthcare services to over 38,000 patients. One of the largest GP practices on the south coast, the Adam Practice is committed to providing the highest quality medical and preventative health care to its communities. This is achieved by creating an environment which is professional, accessible, friendly and caring. Implementing innovative technologies and ensuring systems and processes are efficient and streamlined plays an important role in achieving these goals.

The importance of instant access to reliable and accurate temperature data

Prior to implementing the automated RemoteM system, the Adam Practice relied on SD data cards and temperature probes to manage mandatory temperature monitoring, requiring time consuming manual reading processes which were also subject to human error.

“We had experienced significant issues with corrupt data cards, further complicated by the time it was taking to access accurate data on how long stock had been out of temperature in the event of a power failure or fridge malfunction,” stated Fiona Witt, Estate & Facilities Manager for the practice. “Two or three power outages resulting in the total loss of fridge contents meant we were becoming acutely conscious of the implications for future expensive stock losses as well as the waste of valuable nurse time.”

We had already had the opportunity to evaluate another system in use for monitoring COVID vaccines last year. In comparison, RemoteM was a breeze to install and understand, without any need for dovetailing with our own IT systems

RemoteM is simple to use and manage

The Adam Practice looked at a number of different automated temperature monitoring solutions and settled on RemoteM because of its ease of use and simplicity of operation.

Fiona also feels that the dashboard is easy to use and manage. “One of the key advantages for us is the flexible alerts system, which tells us immediately via SMS or email when temperature fluctuations occur outside our pre-set limits. We can check what’s happening and react appropriately to ensure the integrity of our cold chain.”

Quick and simple to install

One of the main benefits of RemoteM is the fact that it is a stand-alone system which is quick and easy to install, requiring no specialist knowledge or integration with existing IT systems and connections.

This 24/7 capability enables The Adam Practice to monitor with complete confidence, secure in the knowledge that RemoteM will highlight any temperature fluctuation issues in real time, allowing practice staff to take immediate rectifying action. “Before RemoteM, we had no insight into what happened over the weekend, and issues only came to light on Monday morning. Now we are alerted straight away to any problems and can act to avoid stock losses,” said Fiona.

It was a very simple installation process, quite literally ‘plug and play’ as promised. We now have RemoteM up and running across five sites, monitoring more than twenty fridges 24/7

Timely alerts save money and stock

Fiona says she would definitely recommend RemoteM for other healthcare settings needing to monitor vaccines, medications and tissue samples in fridges. “We had a recent power outage on a Sunday afternoon,” she explained. “Obviously the site was closed, but we were immediately alerted by RemoteM. We were able to download accurate data and knew exactly how long the outage had been and what the temperatures in our fridges were for what periods of time. As a result, we were able to check with manufacturers and save the vast majority of the stock.”

The nursing team at the Adam Practice now only conducts a brief double check every Monday to verify readings over the weekend, and are looking forward to using additional RemoteM functions to download comprehensive and accurate reports at inspection times.
