Bicester Vets
Installing automated temperature monitoring and alerting capabilities reflects our commitment to investment in advanced technology, continuously improving our services for our patients and their owners. The RemoteM system provides us with an efficient and accurate method for ensuring our medicines and vaccines are kept in prime condition in line with manufacturers’ guidelines. It saves the nursing team a significant amount of time by automating the temperature recording processes, and also includes a 24-hour alerting facility which gives us the reassurance that our cold storage is operating correctly at all times- Louise Hughes, Head Veterinary Nurse, Bicester Vets

About Bicester Vets
Originally founded in 1921, Bicester Vets has evolved into a modern, highly specialised small animal practice with exceptional facilities and excellent care including 24-hour overnight nursing and an after-hours emergency service, equipped with the latest technology, facilities, and veterinary expertise. Over the past year, the practice has extended and installed advanced imaging capabilities in the shape of a new CT scanner as well as advanced anaesthetic equipment for enhanced safety.
Reliable temperature monitoring processes
Prior to opting for the RemoteM system, Bicester Vets were already using digital systems to monitor medicines and vaccines stored in fridges, freezers and ambient areas. However, these probes presented a number of operational issues.
The probes were battery powered, and required regular charging. They operated by linking to our WiFi system, and the link was notoriously difficult to keep connected as well as generating some unreliable readings, which was problematic. In addition, they required a wire to be passed through the fridge seal, which was not ideal.- Head Veterinary Nurse Louise Hughes
Data was sent from each device via email, meaning that Louise and her team had to collate information daily and enter this into a spreadsheet, which was laborious and time consuming. “We needed a more accurate, more automated system to free up nurse time and ensure we always has access to accurate records,” explained Louise.
RemoteM – simple and effective
The team at Bicester Vets did some research into what was available on the market to improve processes, and decided to opt for the RemoteM two-week free trial option to see whether the system matched their requirements.
The results of the trial were favourable. RemoteM did exactly what we needed it to do, reliably and without creating additional work in terms of downloading and managing the data. In addition, we had the 24-hour alerting system, giving us the confidence that we knew how our fridges and freezers were operating at any time of the day or night.- Head Veterinary Nurse Louise Hughes
RemoteM working for Bicester Vets
The new automated system is now working in nine separate areas for Bicester Vets. “RemoteM was easy to install and operate,” confirmed Louise. “Everything arrived clearly marked up for your installation, so we just plugged in the base station, put the small nodes in place in fridges, freezers and the dispensary and switched on.”
For Louise, the main benefits are clear. “This really is an automated system that gathers and stores information then delivers it when required in a clear and easy manner. We have access to a user-friendly dashboard and no longer need to spend hours downloading and collating information to prepare reports needed at inspection times.”
In addition, the alerting function means medicines and vaccines are always stored safely and correctly, and fridges and freezers can function properly without the need to pass wiring through door seals, which could impact upon performance.
The RemoteM system matches Bicester Vets’ commitment to implementing modern technology to enhance performance and services.
